Cotton With A Little Give
A knotted boatneck top that stays mostly cotton and adds just enough stretch.
Loft's Knotted Boatneck Top is 94 percent cotton with 6 percent elastane, which is why it earns a C rather than an A: cotton does the breathing and softening, and the small dose of elastane buys you a little give and recovery so the knot detail and neckline keep their shape. That 6 percent is petroleum based, so this is not a pure-cotton piece, but there is no polyester padding the fabric and no processed cellulose hiding in the blend, which is more than most tops at this price can say. At 22.93 dollars you are getting an honest cotton-forward top with a touch of stretch, and the label is not pretending otherwise.
Good to know
- Machine washable, but wash cold and tumble dry low; cotton-heavy fabric can still shrink with heat, and gentle drying protects the elastane stretch.
- The 6 percent elastane is what keeps it out of A territory. It is plastic based, but kept under our stretch limit, so the top stays a recommended natural.
- At under 23 dollars this is fair value for a mostly-cotton top, and you are paying for the fabric rather than a logo.
Why it earns a C
- 94% natural fiber (94% cotton).
- Contains 6% elastane for stretch, which we allow up to 15%.
The exact composition
We grade the body or shell, the fabric you actually wear. Synthetic linings or trims are shown here but do not change the grade.
