A Cotton Cami Under Ten Dollars
A barely-there layering cami that is mostly cotton with a touch of stretch.
Loft's Essential Cami is 95 percent cotton with 5 percent elastane, which lands it a B and a spot on our recommended list. The cotton breathes and the small amount of elastane is the only non-natural part, kept to the 5 percent we tolerate so it holds its shape without going synthetic on you. At 7.63 dollars it is one of the cheapest honest pieces we have come across, and the price is the easy part to love. This is a workhorse layering piece, the thing you reach for under a cardigan or a blouse, and at this cost there is no reason to settle for a polyester one.
Good to know
- Machine washable, but wash cold and skip high heat, since the cotton can shrink and the elastane lasts longer away from the dryer's heat.
- That 5 percent elastane is petroleum based, the trade-off for a cami that keeps its shape; if you want zero stretch, look for an all-cotton tank instead.
- At under ten dollars, the value is hard to argue with, this is about as low-risk as a natural-fiber basic gets.
