A Checked Shirt, All Cotton
Uniqlo's broadcloth shirt skips the blend and grades A on fabric alone.
We like a shirt that lets its fabric speak, and this broadcloth shirt from Uniqlo is all cotton, body and through, which is why it earns our top grade. Broadcloth is woven tight and smooth, so it presses crisp and breathes the way only real cotton does, with no polyester crammed in to cut costs. At 49.90 dollars it is one of the easier yeses we have come across: a regular collar, a checked pattern, and a composition most labels at this price would have padded with synthetics. Honest fabric, no filler.
Good to know
- The label reads machine wash cold or dry clean. Cold water is kinder to all-cotton, which can shrink in heat, so wash cold and skip the hot dryer.
- Broadcloth wrinkles. Pure cotton creases more than a blend would, so expect to iron it or steam it crisp.
- At under 50 dollars for a 100 percent cotton shirt, the value is strong. You are paying for the fabric, not a brand markup.
Why it earns an A
- 100% natural fiber (100% cotton) with no synthetics, elastane, or regenerated cellulose.
The exact composition
We grade the body or shell, the fabric you actually wear. Synthetic linings or trims are shown here but do not change the grade.
